The Book

Based on true events, Vassalage: Truth, Lies, and Power is a memoir told through unedited family letters.

With the exception of the Epilogue, the book contains no narration, commentary, or retrospective analysis. The letters stand on their own, exactly as they were written, in the order they were written.

The Prologue (Podcast Season One)

The book opens with The Prologue, a small collection of letters that mark the earliest fractures in my family’s foundation. Subtle shifts in tone, loyalty, and authority begin to emerge — long before anyone acknowledges what is happening.

Season One of the podcast corresponds to The Prologue, providing the background, memories, and context necessary to understand the world in which these letters were written.

Part One: The Departure (Podcast Season Two)

The narrative then moves into Part One: The Departure, where the letters begin in earnest during a family crisis. What follows is a chronological record of how events were framed, explained, and managed in real time.

Season Two of the podcast follows The Departure, where I read the letters in full and in order, while offering historical and personal context that does not appear in the book itself.

This project is not just about a divorce. It is a rare opportunity to examine a private family conflict through an unusually detailed written record, revealing how reality inside my family differed from what the outside world was told.

The book preserves that written record. The podcast exists to provide context, background, and my own personal reflections.
