About This Project

Vassalage: Truth, Lies, and Power is an independent, anonymous storytelling project built from an unusually extensive collection of family letters written during a bitter divorce.

The book preserves those letters exactly as they were written. With the exception of the Epilogue, it contains no narration, commentary, or retrospective analysis. The written record stands on its own.

The podcast exists for a different purpose.

Through personal memories, historical context, and close reading of the letters, the podcast provides the background necessary to understand how this conflict unfolded — and how the reality inside my family differed from what the outside world was told.

This project is not just about a divorce. It is a rare opportunity to examine a private family conflict through a detailed written record, and to see how power operates behind the scenes: how authority is protected, how narratives are managed, and how accountability is often avoided.

All names, locations, and identifying details have been changed to protect privacy. This project is shared anonymously to minimize harm while preserving the integrity of the record.
